This is the season for ultra wearable, seriously tailored, beautifully constructed clothes in neutral colors. Some might say the palette was too safe at the shows, but with a nod to the ongoing recession impacting every business along 7th Avenue and beyond, designers gave us timeless investment pieces. In other words, they offered us luxe for life. Fashion Week itself was a pared down affair - with much less celebrity hoopla. Even at Marc Jacobs' show, usually an A-list circus, celebrities were conspicuously left off the invitation list. In a back to basics move, the front row was about fashion editors and buyers, not stars (who don't pay for the clothes anyway). "It's all about well-designed clothes that women want to wear," says Daniela Agnelli, Style Director for the Telegraph Magazine of London.

"Timeless and classic; the colours are predominantly a combination of navy, black, camel, grey, and white. Fabrics are luxurious; cashmere, soft glossy leather, silk crepe de chine.' This mood is being explored by designers at Celine, Calvin Klein, Acquascutum, Chloe, Stella McCartney ,Gianfranco Ferre and Michael Kors.
