Obvious brunettes made to look blond will look like color from the last decade.”Master stylist Frederic Fekkai shares a similar philosophy, especially when it comes to texture: “Hairstyles will be respecting the texture of your hair. If you have a little wave, we enhance that, if it's straight, we make it straighter, if it's curly, we play with that." Models sported a range of textures during the most recent collections, from super-straight (Michael Kors) to cascading, carefree curls (Versace) to over-the-top Afros (Louis Vuitton). In addition to enhancing texture, updos are the most modern way to play. Fekkai suggests everything from sleek buns (see Marc Jacobs’ top-knots) to posh ponytails (slicked back at Gucci). To wit, at Chanel Karl Lagerfeld teased tousled tresses and topped off with look-at-me headbands and ornamentation. How to take it from the catwalk to the sidewalk? Fekkai recommends using your hands as styling tools “to let this look develop according to your own hair type.”
If you’re desperate for a dramatic change, rather than grabbing the shears, Fekkai endorses trying a faux-bob: “Faux bobs have been everywhere on the red carpet this season. Megan Fox, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Alba have all been seen sporting this new look.” Donna Karan showed a beautiful ponytail-meets-faux-bob on her Spring runway, proving that doubling up on hair and make-up trends can be done without looking costume-y. |
