We witnessed candy-apple coral at Prada, screen siren red at Dior, berry-stained at Jason Wu, and noir purple-black at Rodarte. “Color is major,” affirms Jackie Gomez, all-star make-up artist to Beyonce, Marisa Miller and Jennifer Lopez. But she also points out the importance of eyes this season: “Eyeliner has made a huge comeback. It’s everywhere.” Celeb make-up artist Kerry-Lou Brehm, who has rocked looks for Dave Navarro and Candace Bushnell, gets more specific: “People are getting bored with the smoky eye, and they’re switching it up with a crisp elongated shape. Pat McGrath did a stunning white liner for Donna Karan.” Gwen Stefani experimented with neon at L.A.M.B. (she excitedly showed me her own electric blue eyeliner when we chatted backstage), futuristic flourishes stood out at Balenciaga, and at Derek Lam, models’ eyes resembled Caribbean sunsets.
While this season’s make-up allows us to play with the extremes King mentions, following hair color trends (or perhaps I should say, falling for them) can be significantly less forgiving (trust, me I’ve been there). “What’s out is hair color that doesn't enhance your beauty,” advises world-renowned colorist Louis Licari. And, although celebs have been going red, and models have been going platinum, Licari advises against the unnatural: “Hair color that is excessively dark, light, or hair that looks like it needs a major color correction is a major beauty faux pas.
Fewer dark hair women will attempt to look blond. They will embrace and enhance their brunette locks.
