NEW YORK | STYLE | 02.01.2010 | Katrina Szish.
Rather than sending a sparse selection of do-or-die trends down runways, designers went wide this Spring. Ultra-feminine confections? Check. Modern minimalist silhouettes? Check. Urban jungle khaki uniforms? Check. Edgy rocker redux? Check. Refreshingly, the new style rule is about defining, refining and ramping up your personal style. |

And where fashion goes, beauty follows (or is it the other way around?). Spring’s get-gorgeous trends are equally egalitarian, the ultimate goal being to enhance your unique beauty rather than painting, straightening or otherwise preening yourself into a contrived carbon copy of whoever the Red Carpet flavor-of-the-moment may be. And, a myriad of make-up colors and dramatic ‘dos yield a veritable crayon box of creativity, with enough options for every woman to play her way. “Extremes are in,” says lipstick queen Poppy King. While there was still lots of clean-faced make-up on the catwalks, King insists “color is the focus,” interjecting a little “yay!” when she refers to the growing trend of megawatt make-up worn casually for daytime with jeans and T-shirts. Such color extremes by way of bold and bright lips captured the imaginations of designers and make-up artists around the globe.
