Designer Prabal Gurung catches the fast-track to superstardom.

Nothing says, “I’ve arrived” in the fashion world more than a nomination by the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Or, the official approval of Anna Wintour in the form of a two-page feature in Vogue. Or, indeed, a nod from First Lady and fashion plate, Michelle Obama, as she dons your dress for an official engagement. For up-and-coming designer Prabal Gurung, he’s managed to achieve all three in the last month.

"It has been such an incredible ride," says Gurung, who is, rightly so, still coming to terms with his sudden stardom. "I cannot believe my good fortune. I am doing what I love the most and, to top it all, to get this kind of recognition? It is surreal."
The name Prabal Gurung has been on the lips of Los Angeles’ and New York’s top stylists since he launched his eponymous line in February 2009.
