  Fall Swing Ahead

Imagine sepia-colored foliage in Central Park, frost on the loading docks of the bustling garment district, and warm, roasted chestnuts luring the revelers on Lexington Ave and you’ll have ceremoniously characterized fall past and present. Add to that this season’s worsted wools, supple cashmeres, and hunter plaids (inspired directly by LL Bean’s utilitarian ideology … thank you Ralph Lauren!) and the story starts unfolding. Here PinkMemo takes a moment to survey the scene, scoping out trends like the rustic-chic, curvy, capacious and colorful, along with the designers and shops that are delivering them.

Jeffrey
Who wouldn’t love a one-stop-shopping destination, especially when it includes the likes of Chanel, Giambattista Valli, Marni, Rodarte and L’Wren Scott? Jeffrey Kalinsky, a premiere fashion figure with a flair for aesthetics, surely got it right when he opened this second Jeffrey store in1999. A plethora of colorful racks overflow with handsome frocks, while striking displays of accessories and accompaniments meet and greet the savvy shopper. Invest in shoes from Brian Atwood, Prada and Valentino, along with Dries Van Noten separates and Dior skirt suits in luscious tweeds and wool.

RARE Vintage
Owner Julia Cairone’s own collection of vintage couture inspired her Midtown store RARE Vintage, which stocks some of the finest original pieces from such notable names as Madame Grés, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Hermes. After noticing that other style aficionados preferred the original silhouettes and styling of these true design originals, she began the search for exclusive pieces to showcase at her shop. Constantly traveling around the globe, she scours the closets and collections of many a stylish maven, finding exceptional, one-of-a-kind twentieth-century couture and ready-to-wear pieces. Being a favorite of some of the swankiest of celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Calista Flockhart only adds to her reputation as having and eye for past perfection.
