However, Three Custom Color Specialists’ most astounding talent still remains one of the best-kept beauty secrets in the city. “The three,” as they’re called -- Trae Bodge, Scott Catto and Chad Hayduk – birthed their cosmetic chemistry collaboration in Catto and Hayduk’s Hell’s Kitchen apartment in 1997. They offered 15 lipsticks, 10 lip liners and a custom blending service, all available only via snail mail.

Now, just over a decade later, they have been featured in most major glossies, their pigments and potions have decorated many a famous face (Jessica Biel, Penelope Cruz, Sofia Coppola, Fergie), and their product line is stocked by countless luxe suppliers. They traded a stay-at-home lab for a sleek, futuristic one, tucked in the back of their bright and airy Color Studio in the Flatiron District. And this is where the real magic happens.

In the alternate universe that is 3CC, there is no such thing as a “discontinued shade.” The three have mastered cosmetics cloning; to such a level of perfection that some of the world’s most famous lips have asked them to recreate their signature shades from days gone by (think Angelina’s signature nude pout). Simply send these modern-day alchemists a tiny dab, scrape or smudge of an arcane shade, and they’ll bring it back to life in full-size form. To date, they have recreated over 9,000 discontinued shades of lipstick, eye shadow and more, including hues that hearken back to 1930.
