The Park Avenue Tree Lighting
What began in 1945 as a way to honor the men and women who lost their lives in World War II—The Park Avenue Tree Lighting has become an annual New York tradition. Now serving as a memorial to all who have died defending our country, the event is a great way to remember the original meaning of the lights and kick-off the holiday season. This year the lighting takes place on Sunday, December 4 and will be followed by a ceremony outside of The Brick Presbyterian Church. The tree lighting also relies purely on the community for donations, which allows the Fund for Park Avenue to plant, light and maintain the trees and flowers. Trees will remain lit until mid-January 2012.
