NEW YORK | SCENE | 05.07.2010 | Anisha Lakhani.   A full moon lit up the Manhattan sky, and beneath it the Swarovski Crystallized store in SoHo glittered. Pretty in Pink's iconic actress Molly Ringwald joined friends to toast the launch of her book, Getting the Pretty Back. The invite came from one of Manhattan's chicest ladies, Brooke Geahan of the Accompanied Literary Society, and read simply "Please join Ruben & Isabel Toledo, Cindy Sherman, and the gorgeous Molly Ringwald... Molly's book is a unique amalgamation of a memoir, style guide, and fashion bible... the talented and lovely Ruben Toldeo illustrates the book making it an absolutely unique memoir-cum-style guide.” For any of us who came of age in the 80’s, the mere opening of OMD’s "If You Leave" is enough to bring us back

to that first moment when we watched a movie that would become one of the emblems of a decade. And Molly was at the heart of it all, the queen of the Brat Pack and a lifetime member of the exclusive Breakfast Club.

Molly, now 40, walks over with a big smile on her face, and she is still every bit as pretty, but now there is an added sophistication as evidenced by her champagne hued cocktail dress. One wonders what their first words will be when meeting an actress who starred in every favorite movie of their teenage years, so it's an out of body experience when I begin with the strangest confession: "Meeting you just brings me one step closer to James Spader." Bad boy Spader was the ultimate heartthrob, but this is Molly Ringwald and I am cringing at my potential gaffe, but nobody is laughing harder than Molly. "Ah yes," she grins broadly, "James." We pause. A collective sigh of female appreciation for Spader ensues. That's the thing about Molly. She is immediately disarming. Perhaps this is why the confessional continues.

"I haven't read the book," I admit, and Molly nods understandingly as if knowing where I am going with this, but I still have to ask, "What's it about?"
