New Yorkers partied like it was 20Ten at Madison Square Garden in January, as Prince lit up the stage and delighted the city's fans with songs from his brand-new album (he also threw in some solid classic hits!). Touring the East coast for the first time since 2004, the artist's Welcome to America Tour was all the buzz, and procuring tickets to the sold-out concert became the ultimate sport. Special appearances by Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E., and Graham Central Station heightened the frenzy. Prince outdid himself with other surprises onstage: he serenaded Leighton Meester, then Mos Def and Jimmy Fallon danced - and that was only on one night! The January blizzards were especially frosty this winter, but inside MSG it was all about Purple Rain.
