We Can’t Get Enough Of…Lucite

Now that most of the Fall/Winter 2010 collections have wrapped (Paris, hurry up!), we’re all back to focusing on our Spring/Summer must-haves. As we do annually, we made a mental checklist of things we want—and at once, everything became crystal clear. We need some transparent Lucite jewelry in our accessories collection.

Probably the most coveted purveyor of these Bakelite-inspired beads would go to quintessential American designer (and one of my personal favorites), Michael Kors. His S/S 2010 runways were flooded with the clear stuff, both in necklace and in cuff form. We are obsessing over his bubble necklace ($695, michaelkors.com). He paired it on the runway with a sleek LWD—and we would do the exact same thing. Because the beads are quirky in nature, they’ll play off best against clean lines, solid colors and classic garment shapes.

When you’re headed for a night of cocktails and laughs at The Box or strolling down a red carpet at the Puck Building, reach for Judith Leiber’s frosted Lucite clutch ($2,595, judithleiber.com). Celebs have been spotted sporting the bag all awards season, and with good reason: The frosting helps keep your purse contents a secret, and the crystal detailing is so art deco chic. Be forewarned though: if you put this baby down, you may never see it again.

Wanna kill two birds with one stone? Check out J. Mendel’s line of Lucite statement jewelry. Those three words alone are enough to make my heart aflutter. This sculptural cuff ($450, vivre.com) is closer to a piece of art, rather than just another accessory, but because it’s extremely delicate, proceed with caution if you’re the clumsy type.
