TASCHEN FASHION DESIGNERS A-Z BOOK LAUNCH PARTY

The Taschen Store in Soho proved a proper setting to fête the kick-off for New York Fashion week and the limited edition Taschen tome: Fashion Designers A-Z.  Attendees gathered to indulge through the illustrious pages chronicling a century’s worth of designers, from the talented types of Azzedine Alaïa, Cristóbal Balenciaga, and Coco Chanel, to Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, and Vivienne Westwood with a decadent display of their remarkable contributions to the world of fashion.

The opulent table-topper features photographs of over 500 garments selected from The Museum at FIT’s permanent collection and are available as a series of six Designer Editions, each bound in fabric created by one of the six designers and encased in a Plexiglass box.  Director and Chief Curator of the Museum Valerie Steele appeared to tout the tome alongside Deputy Director Patricia Mears and featured designers Jean Yu and Yeohlee.

Guests sampled sweet and savory delicacies provided courtesy of the Japanese dessert bar Kyotofu whilst sipping sparkling wine and mingling with the designers and other Museum patrons, as well as enjoying a brief speech by Steele on the history of collecting fashion; a perfect launch for the latest designer collections.
