Modern Primitives at Design Miami

Silvia Venturini Fendi’s collaboration with New York architects Benjamin Aranda and Christopher Lasch has finally made its way to the States from the Venice Biennale. Modern Primitives, the interactive exhibition that recently debuted during Art Basel Miami Beach, is a multimedia project that “really pushes the boundaries of fashion, design, and architecture,” said Silvia Venturini Fendi.

The ever-changing installation is a landscape of prismatic shapes with the accoutrements of Fendi’s luxurious fur and leather, and it explores the possibility for creativity and compatibility between geometric forms and luxurious materials. Visitors are encouraged to participate by creating their own designs. Aranda and Lasch later incorporate these attempts, allowing the exhibit to constantly change. Completing the venture are a one-of-a-kind Fendi Peekaboo bag and a scarf, featuring a pattern designed by Aranda/Lasch.

Fendi’s tradition of limited editions and handcrafted items allowed this exploration into the architectural world, and the significance of pieces unique to the Fendi brand not only opened the door for this collaboration, but also for previous collaborations with fresh young design talent.
