KELLY WEARSTLER: RHAPSODY BOOK PARTY LAUNCH

A chic set of guests flocked to Wooster Street the evening of Wednesday, February 6^th in order to laud design darling Kelly Wearstler, with congrats in due order as celebratory revelry commenced in light of the launch of her latest tome, KELLY WEARSTLER: RHAPSODY.  The Rug Company Showroom crackled with both literal and kinetic light and warmth as gatherers gladly sought to nosh on crudités, nab a glass of fizz, and to grab a chance to gab personally with the perennially hip Wearstler herself.  Designers Joy Cioci, Celeste Greenberg, Satu Greenberg, Krisitan Laliberte, and Natalie Obradovich were in attendance as was, most notably, VOGUE European Editor at Large Hamish Bowles, amongst other stylish some-bodies thrilled and fit to fête the first night of New York Fashion Week.

A radiant Wearstler, attired smartly in a denim jacket layered over a printed tee, jeans, printed pumps, and jewelry from her own line, waxed enthusiastically on her design process.  “My sources of inspiration are everywhere, and inspiration can come from everything,” Wearstler offered.  “From each client I work with, to my library, museums, architecture, fashion, art, street art, jewelry, and books.”

Whipped together with due regard to the popularity of her own blog, My Vibe, My Life, KELLY WEARSTLER: RHAPSODY is a slick, chic peek behind-the-scenes of Wearstler’s design processes, artfully chronicling a variety of locales and loves to which the designer loyally frequents and adheres.  From formal shopping excursions in auction houses to the more nitty-gritty modus operandi of creating sculptural works in her metal foundry.

Add to her repertoire the more recent role of fashion designer and you’ve one well-rounded “rhapsody”, indeed.  Informed, of course, of Wearstler’s own innate aesthetic sense and of her own brand of calculated creative energy, the processes, says the designer, are similar, yet varied when it comes to the speed with which the fashion world moves.  “Fashion is super-fast, and you cannot be late,” Wearstler admitted.  “In Interior Design, there can be project delays caused by zoning issues, bad weather, city permits that can cause the deadlines to be pushed back, but in fashion there are hard deadlines, and if you miss them, you’re done.”

Next up for an add-on to the opus?  “I have a lot of exciting projects going on right now,” said Wearstler.  “I am currently designing a hotel in San Francisco; it is a new, super cool brand.  It is going to be so amazing!  I am also continuing to evolve and learn.”
