Jason Wu Collaborates with Melissa for Plastic Shoe

Plastic meets Jason Wu in the newest footwear collaboration. Wu will reinvent classic silhouettes from the Brazilian plastic shoe label Melissa. “It was really interesting for me to explore design possibilities with plastic,” says Wu. “I wanted to take advantage of the materials I was given, make it completely functional and waterproof and yet still remain extremely sophisticated.” Wu follows in the footsteps of other guest collaborators like Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Wu designed the classic Ultragirl ballet flat and Lady Dragon peep-toe slingback with personal touches like a gold sunburst accent from his fall collection and a Miss Wu owl logo. The shoes, lined with Wu’s signature lace-printed image, will be available in black, burgundy, nude and transparent gray. The American designer will visit Brazil in late July to launch the line at the Melissa flagship store.
