CFDA’s Proper Nods

Last evening’s CFDA Awards brought the fashion flock to the new Alice Tully Hall venue at Lincoln Center for the recognition of the industry’s top talent.  Brit comedienne Tracey Ullman hosted this year’s awards with presentations by Diane Kruger, Jimmy Fallon, Terry Washington, Diane von Furstenberg, Blake Lively, and Justin Timberlake.  Honorees included Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Womenswear and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Accessories.  In a tie between Calvin Klein and Band of Outsiders, the Menswear Designer of the Year award was split this year between CK’s Italo Zucchelli and Scott Sternberg.

Antoine Arnault and Robert Duffy presented Marc Jacobs with the International Award for his work for Louis Vuitton, and major nods went also to First Lady Michelle Obama and designer Anna Sui, who were honored, respectively, with the Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Swarovski Awards for Womenswear and Menswear went to Alexander Wang and Tim Hamilton.  Subversive Jewelry’s Justin Giunta took home the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design and the Popular Vote, presented for the first time by Women’s Wear Daily via an online voting site went to Ralph Lauren.  The Eugenia Sheppard Award went to WWD editor in chief Edward Nardoza and GQ creative director Jim Moore was honored with the Eleanor Lambert Award.  That’s a wealth of cheers for the year.
