SPREE:
Giving and Receiving |
|
 |
 |
 |
| |
Time for a sensible splurge don’t you think? As the holiday season commences so to does the impending need for gifts that make a statement. After all, these days a sophisticated skin handbag or a piece of fine jewelry doesn't quite do the trick. Instead, gifts that offer luxury and meaning seem to top the list.
Rest assured smart shoppers, that your decadent purchases
will serve two purposes this holiday when you buy one of Gucci’s stellar limited edition
holiday handbags or accessories. These gorgeous pieces take the guilt out of giving (and
receiving) while their short-term-shelf-life makes them a hot commodity. Hey, even spokeswoman Rihanna agrees.
Designed by Frida Giannini and supporting Unicef and the children of sub-Saharan Africa, these festive and functional bags, shoes and accessories join quintessential holiday colors and motifs with a thoughtful purpose and meaning. And if that's not enough, they come in a variety of styles ... Our favorite being the white python hobo with embroidered heart tatoo and metal crest for $4,590.

SHOP:
Italy Meets India |
|
 |
 |
 |

Christina
Gitti presents brilliant color combinations in her Indian inspired Soho store, Matta. This Italian designer
travelled widely before eventually settling down in Brooklyn, NY. During journeys through the Middle East and India she was exposed to the diversity of
natural fabrics and earth-toned dyes that are popular in the region. She
decided to meld that palate, with an Italian emphasis on quality, and fine
workmanship. A skilful combination of both worlds is easily detected at Matta.
Fine silks share space with cottons and wool, and nothing is designed to be
drab. Winter feels like spring, when pink scarves layer on top of periwinkle
jackets. Vermillion, gold and silver also add to the East meets West appeal.

Eco-consciousness
also figures in Matta’s design philosophy. From recycled plastic hand weaved
throw carpets to recycled paper products; this store’s chic aesthetic remembers
to consider the planet. For Matta, function is just as essential as form,
Gitti’s garments are not only unique and fashion forward, they are also built
to last. |

When I caught up with Real
Housewife of New York City, Alex McCord during Fashion Week, she had one
important tip to bestow upon me. “Check out Epaulet in Brooklyn!”
We both agreed that Brooklyn often gets a bed
rap from tourists and stubborn Manhattanites, but the reputation is completely
undeserved. Savvy shoppers can find out how much they have been missing at
Epaulet. Not only does it epitomize Brooklyn
chic, it also prides itself upon offering a wide selection of independent,
eco-conscious designers. Epaulet offers the widest selection available
stateside of Brazil’s
designer environmentally friendly shoe label, Melissa, and one of my American
favorites, Tracey Reese.

Boutique owners Michael and Adele provide clients with helpful
personalized assistance and even produce their own label in house. They pride
themselves on the belief that local and fair-trade always trump ultra-corporate.
In their own words, “In these days of mega-retail and
lowest-cost production, we feel that it's crucial to support independent firms
and fair labor practices. If our sale, and your purchase can allow an ambitious
person to keep producing and designing high-quality and unique items - which
you love to death - then our job is done.” Value and quality are their clarion
call, and Epaulet can be counted on to deliver both.

STYLE:
All Wrapped Up |
|
 |
 |
 |
| |
Jack Frost nipping at your fingers, nose, and toes? Tis' the season to start layering with lush and lavish accessories like cashmere, double-plied mittens, alpaca woven scarves, and hats that put the fun back into faux fur.
Afterall, bundling up beautifully warrants options as endless as the little black dress and dark jeans--you know, the right pair, style, and color simply makes the entire outfit. And classic staples like fingerless gloves, newsboy caps, and fringed scarves--items that add pizazz and flavor through patterns, prints and primaries--are poised to become as big as the coat and boots you're wearing this season. After all, adding a scarf or hat to your wardrobe seems as economically justifiable as a walk to the market, don't you think?
So who's on our radar this winter? Pinkmemo's favorites include Burberry, a company that continually takes the cake with their playful plaids, Juicy Couture, whose added a retro spin to their likable and lively line, and J. Crew (pictured above and below) with their glitz and glamour, appropriate for those holiday nights when a warm mug of cocoa just won't do the trick.

|
 |
 |
 |

Fashionable femmes welcome any excuse for a sartorial celebration. Fittingly, you and yours shall congregate to celebrate shop.’s 10-year anniversary this Wednesday evening. With discounts starting at 20%, complimentary drinks, and hors d’oeuvres, it’s the perfect way to celebrate this L.E.S. cornerstone boutique!
Sheepishly unfamiliar? No shame. With shop., owner Lydia Burd has mastered the art of melding the urban Lower East Side vibe with delicate touches of flirty femininity. Featuring covetable lines such as Mike and Chris, Rebecca Minkoff, Graham and Spencer, and more, this shop. really rocks.
