09.03.2010 | I grew up with The Preppy Handbook. I still have my original copy, dog-eared pages and all (my chosen prep nickname was Bunny). Thus, it is with great joy that I welcome the renewed pop culture obsession with all things preppy: the re-release of Japanese tome Take Ivy; the upcoming release of the updated Preppy Handbook, True Prep; the prep aesthetic of super-hot, Columbia-alum band Vampire Weekend; and, of course, the resurrection and reinvention of preppy fashion (tune in to "The Early Show" on CBS Monday morning to see my live preppy style segment!). My favorite updated twist? Tommy Hilfiger's Bennington low duck boot ($298). They debuted at Tommy's Fall 2010 "Preppy With A Pop" runway show and have become one of the hottest must-haves for the season. Am also loving Michael Bastian's mens' collection for GANT (can't wait to see his women's debut next week!). Pop your collar and pick your preppy nickname, because the golden era is back.
