AMY SMILOVIC, DESIGNER AND FOUNDER OF TIBI
“Any of the remote beaches around Las Perlas Islands off the coast of Panama. My husband Frank and I first visited here about 10 years ago through a recommendation from a friend and were blown away. We stayed on Viveros and found a local fisherman who knew all the hidden spots. I couldn’t tell you which ones they were but I suppose that’s what makes them special and secluded; the captain was keeping them a secret. The water is warm and transparent turquoise and the white sand beaches pop up here-and-there tucked into coves.”
PM says: Las Perlas, or the “pearl islands” are a string of 100 or so islands off the coast of Panama. Some of the islands are uninhabited, and the most populated – Contador – is where wealthy Panamanians summer. The Shah of Persia sought exile here in 1979, so it’s an area befitting of a king: perfect white sandy beaches, coconut trees, remote coves and heavenly sea breezes. |
