Singer and songwriter Alexa Wilding boldly takes on a music industry she feels has become too produced and brings back a nostalgic element to New York City's downtown indie scene. The folksy-chic beauty writes her own songs and uses vintage keyboards and instruments. Inspirational and sweet, Wilding has a style that is decidedly her own -- yet one we all want to emulate. |

What does singing mean to you? When I get up on stage and sing, it's about sharing. I want the audience to feel like I'm sitting next to them, sharing my secrets with the hope that it will shed light on their lives and inner worlds. My songs are very private; they're my confessions, the place to be honest, even if it sheds me in an unflattering light or reveals my mistakes. The stage is a safe place to do this. I like to channel my heroes and heroines: Patti Smith, Nico, Joni Mitchell, women surrealists and poets, all of the characters I grew up studying, and hoping that through studying them I would find myself. I feel most myself on stage because I have nothing to hide. I'd like my songs to be friends to listeners, much like my dresses and jewelry are friends to me.
