Robert Rodriguez Spring/Summer 2013 Collection: Tailored to Perfection

As soon as I walked into the Robert Rodriguez showroom this morning, I was instantly transfixed. So many beautiful pieces caught my eye.  I was there to preview the Spring/Summer 2013 Collection, which is absolutely gorgeous. In fact, I found many items in the collection that I wanted to take home right away! I love his use of black and white and the vibrant prints that are key elements throughout the upcoming collection. Most of the pieces are structured and painstakingly tailored to a tee, but there are a few loose tops that are easily styled as more casual look.

Probably the key aesthetic that sets Rodriguez apart from his contemporary cohorts is his extreme attention to detail. Noted—particularly on the back of his dresses, the pleats of the miniskirts, and within the use of contrasting patterns on the insides of his blazers.

And, while we are talking jackets, there is one that is a complete showstopper. It comes in black or white, and the sleeves are studded with metal fringe that is made to look like nail heads. No accessories required when wearing that one! Matching miniskirts and tanks are styled with the same embellishments, but definitely not worn together, and some styles have a menswear-inspired feel to them, like the motorcycle trench, yet still feminine.  What I really love is his raffia-infused fabric that Rodriguez developed, it’s the perfect weight for the warmer months, and my fave piece—dress shorts made from the same material.

And, now onto my Achilles heel—jewelry! You know that I am a complete jewelry junkie, and RR does a fantastic job of killing me with his designs. The piece that I can’t live without? A gunmetal studded cuff that would make Wonder Woman cry. Seriously, it is amazing and also comes in matte black—tres chic. Also in this collection were metallic sliver earrings, crystal collar necklaces, gold dog tags on long chains, and an assortment of cocktail rings. Basically, statement jewelry with high drama, and that’s the beauty of it! But you will have to wait until Spring 2013 hits the stores before you can get your hands on these edgy elements, but in the meantime, you can shop RR’s current collection here.
