Mataano: Somali Twins Deliver Authority at NWFW ’13

Landmark on the Park on Central Park West—-a remarkable old church, welcomed the Mataano Fall/Winter 2013 collection during New York Fashion Week on February 11^th.  The NYC designed and manufactured collection featured glossy patent leather, and animal printed silks reigned with complementing loose-fitting knits and classically tailored coats with menswear accents.

Mataano, a line launched in 2008 by Somali twins Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim, is still in its infancy stages, but has already received high praise from Oprah and been lauded by Vogue Italia and The New York Times. Twenty polished looks, rich colors of pink mocha, Bordeaux, navy and deep black set the tone for a collection that was a meditation on authoritative style.

Celebrity guests included NBC Today’s Tamron Hall and the much buzzed about band in the fashion world, Early Morning Rebel. Other attendees such as Bravo television’s Chef Roblé came out not only to support the Mohallim twins, but also provided the festivity’s tasty treats washed down with handcrafted Belvedere cocktails.
