Shimmering Minis, Bold Frocks and Goddess Gowns

Dresses have become the new spring uniform, and fortunately frocks of all sorts are in full bloom. On the runway, designers have embraced dress silhouettes of varying shapes and styles, from romantic to futuristic, from frilly to bold. Last year’s dresses were on the more elegant side, however this season’s looks have turned both casually graceful and chicly sophisticated and can be worn flawlessly either at the office, luncheon or a cocktail party. This season’s dresses come in an abundant array of delectable choices and all lean toward two factors: beauty and ease.

White evokes a sense of innocence and playfulness, so embrace your flirtatious side and turn heads with an above-the-knee baby doll Lela Rose or a puffy yet flattering white halter dress by 3.1 Phillip Lim. Romantics will adore the handmade white rosettes 3.1 Phillip Lim has sewn onto his spring collection. The stark white rosettes he adds—some alone, some in clusters, some near the collar, some at the hem—to pure white dresses, create a crisp, clean, pure look reminiscent of just-washed linens you can’t wait to jump into. A dress in pure white can act like a blank canvas to highlight exotic jewelry and strappy sandals.

If your penchant is for the bold and the brazen, consider wearing a metallic dress. Stella McCartney’s cutting-edge mini will have on-lookers believing they’ve been transported to another dimension. This textual and innovative dress has the sensibility of a futuristic Brigitte Bardot and is feminine in a Star Trek kind of way. Whereas, Chloe’s new mini dress in bold graphics will create a buzz wherever you wear it. Embellished bold print with rosettes and retro colors is a daring choice - not for the conservative or traditional dresser. In Chloe’s dress you will radiate an inner energy and self-confidence you didn’t know you possessed.

For daytime allure or casual chic, tunics and smocks over leggings or skinny jeans are carried over from winter, yet are thawed with a spring romantic look. Adam + Eve’s mini jungle leaf shirtdress in white with a black sash looks great alone, but even better paired with jeans and your favorite spring sandal. Perfect for a day out shopping or a lunch with friends. Alexander Wang’s preppy yet sexy gathered baby dolls over leggings with Tory Burch crocheted ballerina slippers say sassy and flirty without overdoing it.

For the evening, feel like a star as you step into a party wearing a dazzling Marchesa beaded gown, halter or brocade dress. These sublime gowns will make you feel like a princess whatever the occasion. Or if your inner goddess needs a night out on the town, Jenni Kayne’s long-flowing Grecian style dress in perky yellow with a black sash is a perfect pick.

2007 spring dresses have all been designed with visions of beauty in mind, so whatever your style—bold and modern or feminine and romantic—you’ll be able to step into spring feeling as renewed as a social butterfly.
