| | | | | | PinkMemo-Dallas and Cadillac present emerging designers from Texas. Accessories, ready-to-wear, couture and footwear designers from Dallas, Houston, and Austin featured each month. We've got talent. Take a Chance on Çarnce When it comes to picking the perfect handbag, nobody wants to take a chance at buying the wrong one – but with Texas born and raised Chance Jackson, you´ll never go wrong. Raised in Wichita Falls, the Texas´ Next Top Designer finalist and Project Runway semifinalist started his creative career fashioning watchbands in high school, which became a quick hit (wouldn´t you have killed for a friend like that?) and he soon hightailed it to Dallas for fashion design school. After a brief stint at El Centro College in Dallas and a couple years at New York´s Fashion institute of Technology, Jackson´s southern pride lead him right back to his home state. | | | | | | | | | | Lucky for us, Jackson stayed in Dallas and used his Texan bred charm to bring us a little collection called Çarnce – that´s pronounced as sarnce, like an S, a nickname his dad used to call him. And it´s definitely making an impact – when I say little I mean up and rising – after all, everything´s bigger in Texas, right? The covetable carryalls and clutches are a mix of cowboy cool and downtown chic that will have every girl – southern bred or not – swooning. Made of supple leathers like ostrich, alligator, cowhide (acid-washed for an interesting, treated look) and assorted furs, the bags have a buttery soft look and feel that is both delectable and durable. Every piece of leather looks like a hide any outdoorsmen would be proud of, and even the hardware has a cattle ranch feel to it. Sounds a little odd, but we guarantee that even the most edgy city girl will take one look at the steer-horn handle and metal shoat ring of Çarnce’s supple brown messenger style Leather Steerhorn Bag and get excited. It´s not all down home and country though; Jackson designs his bags to feel a tad earthy, but with a hard edge. Çarnce has a raw feel, with its all natural hides, slouchy hobo styles, and soft, found-in-nature colors, but the addition of intricate detailing such as thick leather stitching, thimble studs, black tubing, exposed safety pins, lacing, and other rock star add-ons, the bags are a perfect in-between. Versatility is key with any handbag, and these babies are no exception. Because they are made with real leather, the bags age well and are quite durable – no need to worry about what accoutrements you can carry or where to set it. Also, the neutral colors and raw style will compliment any outfit. Jackson’s handbags retail at $325 to $500, a petty price to pay for a hand stitched leather tote of this quality. Affordable, versatile, durable, made in Texas and oh so pretty – sounds like you should take a chance with Çarnce!
