From the Big D to the Big Apple.

NY Spring Summer 2008 Fashion Week is long over, but now the question is, what to wear for fall? Here's a roundup of fall's hottest fashion from the big apple to the big 'D'. Make waves, Dallas is fashion forward!

This fall, you'll hear more mentions of Giorgio Armani. The fashion icon made a special appearance in Dallas last month to celebrate the Neiman Marcus' 100th anniversary and host the Crystal Charity Ball Luncheon and Fashion Show. In conjunction with the festivities the brand Emporio Armani officially launched the US e-commerce website on Sept 7th.

So what does this mean for Dallas Emporio-loving fashionistas? We can now shop online instead of visiting the nearest store, which is in Houston! Expect to find sunglasses, men and women's ready-to-wear, perfumes and accessories. Don't worry, the Giorgio Armani boutique will be opening very soon at NorthPark, which contains his most expensive collection.

Add to your list of online shopping favorites this month, BigDropNYC.com. This online boutique offers a foray of clothing from contemporary designers like 3.1 Philip Lim, L.A.M.B., and Rebecca Taylor. If you've constantly been stumped on what to wear for that luncheon and had to ask your girlfriends for suggestions, BigDropNYC has you covered. Their impressive collection of wears from various designers add glam and chic-ness to your wardrobe. Shopping is user-friendly if you know what you're looking for, but if you don't, that's okay too because they make it easy to 'shop by look' on their website. One look to sport this fall can be found under their 'gallery opening' category.

Dallasites know that art galleries and exhibitions are opening like crazy in the big D. You wouldn’t want to show up to an opening looking like everyone else in semi-casual attire such as black top and jeans, would you? Here’s one suggestion: The blue One Shoulder Mini Dress by Elijah is the perfect embodiment for such events. Designed by Keryn Dizon, the dress is made of Swiss mercerized cotton, and goes up to mid-thigh. Now that’s sexy and hip!

Whether you’re springing forward or falling back, vintage is another look that never goes out of fashion. According to Kerry Bonnell who owns archivevintage.com, Alaia is one designer name you want to remember when looking for outfits from another era. Designer label, Alaia contains timeless pieces that you can wear and still be fashion forward today. Lookout for the 80’s long-sleeved mini dresses, corset belts, ankle booties, and pencil skirts. The 80’s olive leather waist belt with magnifying glass is also a must have. And if you’re feeling more daring and vivacious, add a splash of yellow, fuchsia, and red to your wardrobe or go all the way with block colors, but do soften them up with a Moschino black leather belt with moveable gold letters. The belt adds depth without making you look like you need a make under or a makeover.

Although shopping online is convenient, visiting stores and trying clothing on before you purchase hasn’t faded away at all. Even though items from Archive can only be purchased online, you’ll soon be able to walk into a store and look at Archive Vintage products. VOD, a new boutique opening this month at Victory Park, will carry some of Bonnell’s collections. More to come on this new boutique!

Another boutique to get all your fall favorites this season is hidden in a residential neighborhood in Uptown. In this small apartment, you'll find items that co-owner Lisa Barnes says, "Cater to all aspects of a woman's life." Before opening Kacky & Carl (Carl comes from Barnes' middle name), Kacky Shelley and Barnes worked for a showroom that represented designers such as Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Tam.

For them, the latest and hottest fashion is the navy orange cotton chandelier dress and the Chelsea red dress by Eva Franco, the Hungarian-based designer who is known for her halter dress. Both of these dresses can be worn as casual wear or dressed-up depending on your mood, either add a clutch bag and pumps or throw on some ballets flats. The Hailey Clutch by Creations by Kage can do the trick and you’ll definitely be dinner party ready. Don’t forget to get a pair of ankle booties to go with the dresses this season. Grays, purples, and greens are the new black by the way. The Kacky and Carl owners expect to launch into e-commerce within a year so keep surfing for that.

So no time to trek to New York, Milan, or London, go online instead and shop for your favorite designers. Keeping up with the latest fashion is simple now that more boutique owners and high-end designers are making their exclusive products available online. You can flex your fashion muscles even more, and expect more damage to your wallet, but in a good way. Happy shopping!
