The new Dallas darling, world-renowned British stylist and official hairdresser of the Academy Awards, Kevin Charles, gives us a behind-the-scenes view of Oscar night and tips on how to stay fabulous. Unable to divulge the beauty scoop on his roster of famous Oscar clients, Kevin can tell us who he has previously styled: - Princess Diana, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Katie Holmes, Oprah Winfrey, Heather Locklear and Naomi Campbell to name but a few.

Kevin Charles at the Academy Awards

PM. Glamorous or not Glamorous; what is your schedule like during the frenzy of pre-Oscar night, how do you keep your clients happy?
KC. Luckily I know the celebrities pretty well, so my job is to bring a sense of calmness. The schedule varies year to year but for the most part I will start at a salon on Rodeo Drive, and then visit my clients hotel prior to the event. I will usually end up at the Beverly Wilshire, the Peninsula or the Four Seasons. I like to work within the same vicinity on Oscar day because as you can image it is almost impossible to get from hotel to hotel with all the excitement.

PM. Why do you think the glamour of the annual Academy Awards influences trends for hair and beauty for the upcoming seasons?
KC. The day after the Oscar telecast, the website for People Magazine set a new record and generated more than 50 million page views. The stars rock the red carpet and when it comes to paving the way in fashion and style celebrities are always imitated by their fashion choices. The actors that grace the red carpet don't just show up, they make an entrance. Dressed in Nina Ricci, Balenciaga, Carolina Herrera, Christian Lacroix, Valentino Couture, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel and many more famous designers. I cannot think of a more influential night of fashion with hair playing a huge role in the finished look of the celebrity.

PM. What 2007 Oscar style do you think will transcend across to fashion and become popular for this summer?
KC. The celebrities at this years Oscar's did not commit to one specific hairstyle. Celebrities wore an assortment of styles from the stick-straight locks of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow, to the throwback of old Hollywood with the material girl look of Madonna and shoulder length retro waves, and Jennifer Lopez's flirty bob. Also throughout the evening you saw timeless styles such as Penelope Cruz opting for sleek Grace Kelly hair. I think it is important to remember that at the very minimum, there is a team behind the look of every celebrity's appearance on the red carpet. The Academy Awards inspires us, and give stylists the ability to create a cut that will not cause disappointment. The look is really not suited for you or your hair, but instead allows your stylist to be able to successfully re-create a mood more than an exact style.

PM. Define the perfect hair and beauty ensemble that typifies the style of Kevin Charles?
KC. The most simple and natural is the most beautiful. I am always focused on the complete picture, the most appropriate haircut, hair color, skincare and cosmetics for each person, each element should be synergistic to create a unique portrait of great style; that's total beauty. Our aim is to create a feeling of well being, where our guests can relax and leave feeling rejuvenated.

PM. Any Kevin Charles style tips for this spring/summer?
KC. Different hairstyles come and go, but the basis of hair is all about the care and texture. With the weather change a basic starting place is to ask your stylist to tailor an in-salon conditioning treatment tailored to your specifics needs, and to custom prescribe products to continue at home between salon visits. It is also a great time to use a product for sun-exposed hair to help maintain healthy, shiny hair.

PM. What trends do you predict for fall?
KC. I believe the style will be very soft, sexy looks with variation in the cut and length in the bangs.

PM. Kevin Charles Salon regularly participates in charity and fundraising events, what are your favorite organizations?
KC. As you may be aware, it is the policy and extended history of the Kevin Charles Salon to actively participate in a wide variety of community and non-profit organizations. We strongly support an array of charitable organizations every year. By participating in various fundraising activities, I have personally raised thousands for such causes as Breast Cancer, the YMCA, and the annual Multiple Sclerosis - Tommy Hilfiger/VH1 fashion show that raises millions for MS in one weekend. I also support numerous local Santa Barbara charities including the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Marymount of Santa Barbara, Direct Relief International, Santa Barbara Film Festival, and many more. The Kevin Charles Salon Dallas continues the tradition by supporting many local Dallas charities including The Cattle Baron's Ball, The Fashionistas, Leukemia Organization, the Suicide & Crisis Center and many more. To embrace and be a part of the Dallas community by donating both our time and money is very important to the Kevin Charles Salon.

PM. What's the next step for the Kevin Charles Salon, anything exciting on the horizon?
KC. The next event on the calendar for the Kevin Charles Salon is to participate in the annual Multiple Sclerosis - Tommy Hilfiger/Nancy Davis Foundation Show on April 13, 2007 in Beverly Hills, California. Last years 'Race to Erase MS' event was produced by Suzanne de Passé including Musical Director David Foster with performances by Kool & The Gang, Sister Sledge, Macy Gray and Natalie Cole.

Cristpoh, Roy Teeluck and Kevin Charles

The Kevin Charles Salon Dallas is proud to fly out four of our stylists who will coiffure the hair of many celebrities for the electrifying fashion show featuring one-of-a-kind disco inspired designs by Tommy Hilfiger. In addition to the MS Event the salon remains extremely busy with local charities, donating our time for different photo layouts and fashion shows.

Another path for the salon is the research and development of additional salons. Although we are very excited to continue to open more salons bearing the name Kevin Charles, most of our concentration is on Dallas at this point in time. Already we have developed a unique staff, and in that our mission is to always ensure that our guests experience five-star service. Modeled after the Santa Barbara, California location, in the Four Seasons Hotel, we are committed to providing the highest level of personal service for our guests during their visit. Our staff, in the short time we have been open has already had the opportunity to go to San Francisco, New York, and California for inspiration and education. They have also attended educational classes with my good friend Roy Teeluck (artistic designer for Nexus) right here in the Dallas salon. Education and exposing my team is a number one priority at the salon. The Kevin Charles Salon provides signature cuts, color, special occasion up-dos, and Kérastase ritual hair treatments. The salon is proud to be the only L’Oreal Hair Color Center in Texas. The Kevin Charles Salon, ”It’s all about the hair…”
