THE TRENCH OF SOCIAL GLAMOUR

DALLAS | SCENE | 04.23.2010 | Haley Schultheis.   Interviewing the gorgeous Rachel Roy this past March, I asked her what her favorite go-to piece was for spring. Roy immediately answered: “the trench coat” describing it as the perfect throw-on that allows the wearer to look both pulled together and chic in a cinch. April showers aside, with the sheer amount of Dallas social events in the past few months, it is a true wonder that entire parties of glamorous women aren’t dressed in an array of trench coats! From one event to another, the season started with PinkMemo’s THESHOW, the kick-off party for Taste of the Nation, and continued with the most recent toasts at Designing with a Vision, and an incredible 1920’s Speakeasy affair at The Ritz.

The kick-off party for Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation at Stephan Pyles’ new stylish downtown restaurant Samar, delighted the chic crowd with the anticipation of things to come. This year’s honorary chef and television host, Blythe Beck, Chef Stephan Pyles, and event chair Terri Provencal joined guests Jan Strimple, John Tesar, Elizabeth and Steven Elsea, and Lori and Efisio Farris as they mingled on the cozy outdoor patio while sampling some of Samar’s delectable tapas. With a myriad of tables available for purchase from local celebrity chefs, the upcoming Taste of the Nation event to be held May 16th at the Hotel Palomar, is the premiere culinary event to end childhood hunger. If this appetizer was any indication of what’s to come for the main course, our palates can expect a delicious lingering of satisfaction both during and after the dining affair.

Speaking of lasting charm and effect, the Ronald McDonald House Speakeasy event on April 16th co-chaired by Jacquelin Sewell and Sara Fay Egan, had me longing for the era of The Great Gatsby, or at the very least, the fashions. Held, most fittingly, at The Ritz Carlton, the evening featured a silent auction held in chicly lit black and pink vignettes nestled in the four corners of the ballroom. The event was a success both on and off the
