Saint Laurent Paris Pre-Fall

His craft is, at once, evident and again, enigmatic.  It’s a seeming contradiction in terms, yet an arguable truth that YSL is birthed at the hand of Hedi…Slimane that is.  As Creative Director for what is now newly-known, per his administrative avocation, as Saint Laurent Paris, (because YSL had just turned into so stale a moniker), Slimane has sought to masterfully modernize the brand via a heady (pardon the pun) harping on the house’s heritage, whilst wielding his own artistic, aesthetic wand in calculated, controlled measures.

In the aftermath of the designer’s inaugural Spring 2013 collection—so initially hotly anticipated, and subsequently, widely speculated upon—the fashion set possessed a collective curiosity as to just what precisely would come next.  Baited breath now slowly subsides as Slimane turned out a cool, collected romp in leather, lace, chiffon, and beyond, for pre-fall, that leaves one waxing enthusiastically about these autumnal options.

Skirts were mini and legs skinny, accentuated with a lace button-up blouse shown layered not-entirely-innocently over a simple bandeau and paired with a scant little skirt prevalent with pleats, whilst a short, swingy chiffon frock printed with tiny polka-dots spoke sweetly of schoolgirl splendor.

Slimane offered the texture of luxe leather in permutations simultaneously sweet and sexy, such as a short-sleeved tunic of sorts with a buttery bow tie paired with skinny pants and a biker-blazer teamed with tights.  Favored with a skirt and an ankle boot in a combination not so extraordinarily innovative yet, on the whole, fully worthy of wear.

A slick, sleeveless leather sheath decked sparingly with studs coolly “rock ‘n roll” was right for the night, whilst daywear appeared slightly more demure, with outwear options emerging in the form of a crocheted cape, tailored blazer and structured pea coat (were those toggles on that topper?) that one can easily see the Saint Laurent fawn donning come fall.  And, P.S., this same S.L.P. woman will be assuredly well heeled in a stiletto croc boot, rather more chic than “cute”.

Offering closet-correlated-credit where said credit is due, there are, in all actuality, ample options available within this grouping of cool-girl garments.

The load is Hedi.  The burden is light.
