Dallas Museum of Art’s 20th Anniversary Silver Supper
SCENE | Posted By | 02.25.2012 | 12:00 PM
More than 150 guests gathered in the barrel vaults of the Dallas Museum of Art to celebrate twenty years of the Silver Supper dinner. The dinner, themed The Great Makers of American Silver, offered an extensive display of the Museum’s silver treasures from the Gilded Age to as late as the last century.

The Silver Supper supports the Dallas Museum of Art’s Decorative Arts Acquisition Endowment Fund collection, raising more than $1 million since 1987. The Museum has the most comprehensive 19th and 20th century American silver collection of its kind in the world.
On Friday, January 27th, the chair of Silver Supper 2012, Peggy Sewell, hosted the dinner. Dr. Maxwell and Jacqueline Anderson were found among the silver treasures along with Kevin Tucker, Deedie Rose, and Ray and Heather Washburne. Capera Ryan, Bob and Rachel Dedman, and Margaret McDermott also attended.
This was the first year the Silver Supper had a presenting sponsor with the same mission as the Dallas Museum of Art—Highland Park Village. Both united in the mission, to collect, preserve, and interpret works of art. For more information about Silver Supper, visit the Dallas Museum of Art.

Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg both Fashionably Loud
SPREE | Posted By | 02.23.2012 | 11:09 PM
A famous lyricist once sang, “We are living in a material world and I am a material girl”. How apropos that now you can listen to the material mom, Madonna, via designer earbuds! Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg are just two of the latest fashion designers to embrace the tech world and design stylish headphones!

Marc by Marc Jacobs: star earbuds.
Marc Jacobs’ earbuds echo his whimsical clothing and accessories—the pair of star earbuds is available in black, purple, or hot pink, which are attached to a cord in a contrasting color. And, if you did want someone to know you’re listening to your music on designer earbuds, the Marc by Marc Jacobs label is embedded on a tab. You can also find a cute eye-catching yellow heart shaped pair of Marc earbuds—prices range from $38-$40.

Diane von Furstenberg: heart earbuds.
We all know diamonds are a girl’s bff, but hearts may come in a close second. Designer icon Diane von Furstenberg also has a pair of heart headphones, but her earbuds are white with a symbolic red heart. Ms. Furstenberg also carries a green and white pair of earbuds painted in her signature print, the earbuds retail for only $25.00. So, do you want to rock a pair of earbuds that look fashionably loud or whimsically relaxed…the choice is yours!

This one-of-a-kind experience is designed to raise funds for UNICEF and awareness among the community about issues children face across the globe. Going Mad for the Mad Men Makeup Collection
SPREE | Posted By | 02.23.2012 | 05:39 PM
Don Draper may be a fictional character, but that hasn’t stopped women the world over from wanting to gain his attention. Now there’s a chance to be the envy of the office with the release of a Mad Men makeup collection by Estee Lauder!

Ranging in price from $25 to $40, you can now have Betty’s blush or Peggy’s pout with cosmetics inspired by vintage Estee Lauder designs dating back to the 1960’s. Called the Mad Men Color Collection, this combo features a seductive red lipstick and a rosy crème rouge for cheeks; both gilded in a golden tube and compact that double as collectible keepsakes. Currently available for pre-order, the cosmetics follow in the footsteps of another collection inspired by the retro TV show, the second Mad Men collaboration with Banana Republic—perfect timing if you ask me. The 40+ clothing items are designed in conjunction with the show’s award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant and will be revealed in stores for Spring 2012. That’s just enough time to perfect your vintage vixen look, mix a martini, and pucker up for the season premiere on March 25!
For more information on either collection, visit Estee Lauder or Banana Republic.

Happy National Margarita Day
SPECIAL | Posted By | 02.22.2012 | 07:39 AM
Raise a glass to the artful blend of tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice on this National Margarita Day. There are many stories about who made that first one as well; I personally like the one that included Margaret Sames, a Dallas socialite, that inspired the cocktail while vacationing in Acapulco in the late 1904’s. Whatever the origin, the original still reigns; whether it’s on the rocks or frozen, with salt or without—however you can also easily enjoy one of the thousands of renditions that have been created since. If you are in the mood to toast this holiday, consider mixing up one of these tasty tributes to this National Margarita Day.

Camarena Raspberry Margarita
1 1/2 oz of Camarena Silver Tequila
1 -2 oz Fresh Raspberries
1/2 oz of Agave Nectar
1 oz of Fresh lime juice
Sprig of Mint for Garnish
Directions: In a rocks glass muddle raspberries; add agave nectar, lime juice and tequila. Fill glass with ice cubes and use a cocktail stirrer to vigorously stir the cocktail. Garnish with mint sprig and a few raspberries.
Jalapeno Cilantro Margarita
1 1/2 oz blanco tequila, like Man in Black Blanco from Texan Kinky Friedman
3/4 oz lime juice
1/4 oz agave nectar (or substitute lime juice and agave nectar for 1 oz Margarita Texas Mix)
3 small pieces of fresh jalapeno pepper
1/4 oz orange liqueur
8 cilantro leaves
Directions: Muddle cilantro and jalapeno pieces, add tequila and orange liqueur, then shake and strain over ice. Garnish with cilantro and pepper.

Patrón Pomegranate Margarita
1/4 oz Patrón Silver
1/4 oz Patrón Citrónge
1 oz fresh squeezed pomegranate juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
Salt lime wheel for garnish
Sprig of mint for garnish
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice cubes, and shake well. Serve straight up in a chilled martini glass or on the rocks in old-fashioned glass. Garnish with half-salt rim, lime wheel, and a fresh sprig of mint.
Ultimate Peruvian Margarita
1 oz. Pisco Portón
1 oz. Grand Marnier
½ oz. fresh lime juice
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
Directions:
Shake ingredients with ice, then strain into a margarita glass and garnish with a lime and an orange wedge

Tracy Reese: Tasteful Color – Fall 2012
STYLE | Posted By | 02.21.2012 | 01:19 PM
The color palette read like a culinary recipe, confident and bold with colors named lemon, juniper, chestnut, tomato, and carrot—cooking up one tasty collection. There is no such ailment as the winter blues with Ms. Reese; the Fall 2012 collection exuded colorful charm with a rich mix of textiles and a happy-go-lucky optimism that imposed a sense of feminine and empowered style.
Photo Credit: Frazer Harrison Getty Images.
The runway backdrop resembled the artful collaboration of the seasonal mood boards, depicting dashes of violet and Persian blue into the edible color palette.

The front row bequeathed a fine folly of fashionable contenders such as; Louise Row, Kate Mara and Nikki Reed—who all admired the warmth of cowl neck sweaters, jacquard tiered minis, easy shift dresses, and gold laminated skirts.

A shearling trimmed duffle coat in tomato, a chestnut neoprene ponte pant, juniper peplum reefer coat, and Astrakhan jacket produced tailored, sharp, and cozy styles—perfect layering accoutrements for your winter wardrobe.
My favorite look—the shearling trimmed coat in tomato worn with a gold dress.

Manolo Blahnik for J. Crew Debuts at NYFW
STYLE | Posted By | 02.17.2012 | 10:06 PM
If you’ve ever answered the question “which Sex and the City character am I?” as Carrie Bradshaw with a sprinkle of Charlotte York, then listen up: Manolo Blahnik is teaming up with J. Crew!

Debuting at Fashion Week, the collection was revealed on the runway—a sole pair of Manolo’s in the classic “BB” pump style, combined with pastel fabrics and ethereal floral prints, exclusive only to the J. Crew brand (oh, and with glitter of course). The collab is apparently a dream-fulfilled for creative director Jenna Lyons, who has been pining to team up with Blahnik for years.
Come Fall 2012, the pumps will be available for purchase online-only at Jcrew.com. But don’t pull out the plastic just yet… unlike other designer collaborations; there won’t be any discounted duds here. The shoes will likely sell for the same amount that a typical pair of Manolo’s cost, somewhere in the $595 range. Then again, another peek at the pictures and I think a month of Ramen noodles might not be so bad after all.
