Shop the Magnificent Menagerie at CURIO
SHOP | Posted By | 04.28.2011 | 11:05 AM
‘Vibrant’ is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Kellie Cashon and her debut collection of sophisticated wares. Curio is the latest cyber launch of fantastic on-line boutiques springing up on the Net. This native Dallas-ite has collected fabulous items, via her jet-setting lifestyle, and grouped them beautifully in this new user-friendly shop.

Kellie has a keen eye and vast interests in all that is beautiful – fashionistas can find “liquid gold” Grecian belts, eye-catching jewelry and delicate vintage handbags, while design diva’s can lust after antique textiles, silver collectibles, unique lighting and striking Asian ceramics. There is simply something for everyone.

“The price point is carefully considered,” says Kellie, “I want good design to be accessible to everyone.” This point of view makes the designer’s site a joy to browse, and the purchases are easy on the pocketbook. CURIO makes it simple to add pizzazz to your own abode or gift a gal-pal with a unique fashion statement.

Visit this exquisite menagerie of lovely goods through Kellie’s interior design website, Cashon & Co, or beeline to SHOP CURIO.

The History of Wearing Wedding White
STYLE | Posted By | 04.28.2011 | 09:03 AM
In just one day, little girls (and adult women) across the world will finally get to see Prince William marry the princess-to-be of his dreams. Who are we kidding? We finally get to see Kate’s dress! While the designer and style may be guarded secret, there’s one thing we can pretty much bet on…the dress will be wedding white. And, its all because of William’s great great great great grandmother, Queen Victoria, who wanted to incorporate a piece of lace to her dress.

Queen Victoria 1840
Once upon a time in a land not that far away, a queen found her prince and made a fashionable choice to wear white on her wedding day. That decision would have a ripple effect across the pond that lasted well beyond her reign. Before Queen Victoria’s picture was plastered all over the U.S. and Great Britain, brides actually wore colored wedding dresses. Sometimes, the women even wore black gowns to say I do!

Queen Victoria’s Wedding
But once the Western World took a look at the queen’s pure and virginal gown, the rest was bridal history—even if it was for completely different reasons. The wealthy wore white because it showed they could afford to have the dress cleaned. The poor wore the color because it was easy to dye and wear again. But by the 20th century, the white wedding gown became a tradition instead of a trend in England and America.

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy 1996
While the wedding dresses in the states seem to be going full circle and utilizing more colors again. There’s one simple fashionable truth…every bride wants to feel like a princess for a day. And, maybe in some small way, Queen Victoria’s happy accident gave every girl her fairy tale ending.

Mad Hatter’s Tea Party 2011
SCENE | Posted By | 04.26.2011 | 12:39 PM
Even a drizzly day couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the southern belles who put on their finest chapeaus for the 23rd annual Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the Dallas Arboretum.
Magnificent Millinery Creations
Marilyn Hailey’s vintage hat collection and sketches were on display in the courtyard during the champagne reception. Hailey has collected toppers over the years, and a favorite were the original hats and designs from Frank Olive, who designed hats for Neiman Marcus back when she herself modeled for them.
D’Andra Simmons, Phyllis Comu, Doris Jacobs and Dee Wyly were among the ladies enjoying the wild array of millinery creations. Wandering the crowd were celebrity judges Valerie Elizabeth, Lisa Garza, Daniel Winson Lewis, LeeAnne Locken and David Wren, looking to dole out fabulous prizes to the best hats.
After a champagne reception, guests enjoyed a fashion show produced by the imitable Jan Strimple, and hosted by Michael Faircloth, which featured luscious fashions from Tory Burch, Karen Millen, Tootsie’s, Betty Reiter and Anne Fontaine.

At the end of the show, the judges selected their favorites and awards were given out for ‘Most True to Theme’, ‘Most Botanical’, ‘Most Whimsical’, ‘Most Elegant’, ‘Best of Show’, and ‘Most Outlandish’. Attendees then meandered out to a beautiful tented pavilion where the day dwindled down with a beautiful seated luncheon.

The Royal Wedding Skin Treatment at Renee Rouleau
SPREE | Posted By | 04.25.2011 | 02:05 PM
I can’t wait till the Royal Wedding’s over, because if there’s one name I’ve heard way too much, it’s Kate Middleton. I have a feeling the princess-to-be shares the same sentiment. To join in the wedding frenzy without taking bets on what designer will do the dress, why don’t you just make it all about YOU!

Renee Rouleau knows that at this point in the game, you’d much rather lay back, relax and get pampered like a princess with The Royal Skin Treatment. For a peaches and cream complexion that will make even the most talked about British beauty envious, try the skin care expert and celebrity esthetician’s royal treatment: ‘Cream Tea” served with English scones and raspberry jam to start, a 75 minute facial, relaxing scalp massage, and smoothing hand treatment. Leave with an at-home Royal Treatment Mini Facial Glow Kit to keep your skin glowing for days on end, and you’ll be set to find your own Prince Charming. I wonder if Harry is on the market…
To make the whole experience more authentic, ask for esthetician Grainne, who comes complete with a British accent! Visit: The Royal Treatment

Hermes for the Hi-Tech
SPREE | Posted By | 04.21.2011 | 08:58 AM
This past March, gadget gals across the U.S. marveled at the iPad 2. And if you are one of the lucky new owners, you probably also need a case. Which is how the French luxury line Hermes enters the picture. Hermes is selling an iPad cover that retails for almost double the price of an actual Apple tablet! Just to put it into perspective, you can carry your $499 iPad in your $899 Hermes case.

Hermes’ High-tech iPad and Station iPad
It may sound crazy to some but Hermes stands by the price and the product. The swift calfskin covers are available in two colors, black and “hook ‘em horns” orange. Ok, so you may think that’s a little steep for a cover, but it is leather and besides it’s not like it cost a $1,000 dollars. Oh, wait it does – for $1,400 Hermes also has an ebony evergrain calfskin leatherwork station case. It allows you to prop up the device and view your media. However, the sticker shock seems like a moot point because if you’re lucky enough to shop at Hermes – does the price even matter?
