  TOP OF THE LINES

This spring, the catwalks come alive as fall’s bleak minimalism, nods to menswear, and moody hues shift towards a more daring, feminine air. Brilliant, glaring colors mingled with frothy, ornamental gowns as fine-tailored separates play favorites among classically defined styles. Exaggerated shapes—a favorite amongst avant-garde designers—explode into the mainstream, creating sigh-inducing silhouettes (think puffed sleeves, wide legs, and voluminous skirts,) while pretty florals suggest the return of the sophisticate.  Closet staples you ask? Primary colors in fuchsia and marigold, glamorous embellishments via sequins and beading, and delicate dresses with a dazzling twist are certain to tempt. Take a peek below for our top five favorites.

Fairytale Frocks
: Frilly and fabulous, some of the season's most stellar dresses combine soft drapes, vellum-like colors and frothy layers of chiffon and tulle. Celebrity favorite BCBG by Max Azria turned out a collection worthy of any starlet, while perennial favorite Monique Lhuillier offered endless yards of tulle. Designed with romantic movement in mind, the flowing skirts and gathered waists offer ample space for dancing.

Botkier Clutch

Oversized Clutch: Buying an accessory of the moment is questionable as the trends come and go quickly. But a surefire statement, that’s withstood the test-of-time, is the always-popular clutch. This season’s shape is all about size, with leather, fabric, suede and beaded designs appearing in each of the four fashion capitals. From the sunshine patent leather at Jimmy Choo, to the lush eggplant from Botkier, the look is both powerful and practical.

Botkier available at Neiman Marcus, 1201 Elm St., Dallas. Call: 214-761-2300

Saturated Hues: Sorbet shades danced across the spring runways creating a bounty of colorful options. Electric and neon hues made a play at the party as designers draped, cinched, ruched and tailored to their hearts content. No longer a season of one "it" color, this spring the hues-to-have arrived via a rainbow of lip-smacking magentas, limes, cobalt’s, citrines as showcased at Gucci, Milly, and Diane von Furstenberg.

Milly Dress available at Studio Sebastian’s, 6730 Snider Plaza, Dallas. Call: 214-360-9001.

Lela Rose

Juicy Couture

Dynamite Dresses: Say goodbye to your “go-to” black dresses ladies, because this season there’s no shortage of sensational styles. Glitz and glamour played a huge part in the various stories coming out of Paris, Italy, New York and London, as seen through the unveiling of shimmery, sequined embellishments, boudoir inspired fabrics and tailored, ladylike looks. Opt for this Lela Rose version, which proposes a juxtaposition of sleek and modern edges.

Lela Rose available at Stanley Korshak, 500 Crescent St., Dallas. Call: 214-871-3600.

Dramatic Denim: What woman wouldn’t love the look of endless, long, lean legs? Designers turned a cold shoulder to skinny jeans this season with the induction of their larger-than-life silhouette. Widely accepted as the more flattering of the two styles, this look is best paired with a billowy top, fitted jacket or simple white tank. Opt for a snug-fitting waist as seen at Dior, or a more laid back, casual version like Juicy Couture’s.
