Museum of Private Art Collections Welcomes International Jetsetters—and World Peace!

It was a veritable who’s who of international VIPs at last week’s inaugural gala for the Museum of Private Collections. Princes, dignitaries, world beauty queens, and elite members of the artist community descended upon Chicago to celebrate the new museum, which features a rotating collection of over 600 original pieces by Salvador Dali and contemporary Chicago artist Matt Lamb.

Lamb, whose initiatives in spreading the message through his innovative Umbrellas for Peace art program, continues to activate communities worldwide. Professor Josep Felix Bentz, the President of the Royal Circle of Arts in Spain, announced at the gala a historic collaboration between Barcelona and Chicago that would include the sending of a 160-foot long Wall of Peace to line a historic fortress in Barcelona!

The colorful night was marked by dance performances from the Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre and a fashion presentation of Lamb-inspired clothing by Spanish designer Jordi Armengol.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony with various visiting delegations from Spain, Ireland, Argentina, Germany, the U.K., and the U.S. commemorated the official opening of the Museum of Private Art Collections.

Though the Museum of Private Art Collections in Chicago is the first U.S.-based Lamb museum, many have opened around the world since 2009. Other opening week festivities included a trip to Lamb’s two studios and the Umbrellas for Peace Parade in downtown Chicago.
